Man.. February is over already! While there's not much to mourn since it's Black History Month all year long around here, that means it's been nearly 3 months since the last interview on Comics Are Dope (The Podcast). I know I should give myself grace, as I had a pretty good reason for breaking the weekly streak. But on the internet, momentum is everything. Suddenly, posting Episode 58 feels a lot like posting Episode One -- and I'm Jar Jar Binks. I do have a few interviews I never got around to posting, and I'll need to add those to the audio feed soon. But with a newborn in the house, I have no clue when I'll be able to record more. Just know, I hope to be back soon. The Animorphs are Back! Speaking of things making a return... did you know the Animorphs had graphic novel adaptations? Thanks to Graphix/Scholastic, I've been binge reading volumes ahead of this week's release of Volume 6. I'm not sure what I expected them to be like, but they've jumped to the top of my Favorite Reads so far this year, and I'll be surprised if they're not still in the Top 5 come December. There's a lot to love about these graphic novels. Each volume is an adaptation of the original by husband and wife team KA Applegate. Chris Grine does a great job cutting out the prose descriptions and keeping a quick pace without losing character voices. And his art? Incredible. I think my favorite aspect is the kid-friendly body horror that comes with each transformation. I only had one or two Animorphs volumes as a kid, but these are a great way to experience the property for the first time. I really hope they get to adapt all 54 of them! At the current pace of 2 per year, I've got plenty of time to make room on my shelves... Just as long as my kids know to keep their paws off.

I never would have guessed I'd only write 3 newsletters in 3 months, but here we are. February was a really good month, but it was tough for me. Every year, I feel like I struggle to cover the wealth of amazing Black comics projects out there during Black History Month. This year, I made 2 videos I'm really proud of. The Deep Dive into Dwayne McDuffie's unique legacy of Diversity at Milestone was well-received, and that made me happy. But the most ambitious video I've ever made was my deep...
Friday, February 20th would have been Dwayne McDuffie's 64th birthday. In comics, he's best known as the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Milestone Media -- home to Static, Icon & Rocket and more. He arguably had an even better career in the world of television animation, first with Static Shock, then serving as Story Editor for Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Ben 10 and the list goes on. His last screened work, a direct-to-DVD adaptation of Mark Waid's Tower of Babel, is probably...
We're finally at the last day of what has been an incredibly STACKED year for Comics. I've only been around since 2019, but this is the most excitement I've ever seen about the medium. We have straight up BANGERS coming out from EVERY comic publisher. DC's Absolute line sold millions of copies. Marvel's Ultimate Universe consistently overperformed, as did Skybound's Energon Universe. IDW is CRUSHING it with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Godzilla's Kai-Sei line. And we got a ton of really...
