I REALLY Wish I was in San Diego Right Now.

It's a rainy Thursday morning here in NC, and I'm really wishing I was elsewhere. What better way to cope than to dust off this weekly very sporadic newsletter? (I'm taking suggestions on a new title, btw).

Let's Predict Some SDCC Announcements!

Today is Day One of San Diego Comic-Con, and while I've seen a few pre-show Press Releases, I have no insider knowledge on what may be announced. Instead, I thought it would be fun to make some wild predictions/guesses.

  1. Stephanie Williams finally joins the DC Next Level Lineup after taking home the Eisner for Best Writer. - But Kicks, the DC Next Level Panel is Friday and Steph isn't on it! I know, I know. But the Eisner Awards aren't until Friday night, and Stephanie will be a part of the Metropolis panel the next day. Maybe they drop the surprise announcement then? Okay, this one's falling apart as I type. But I'm keeping hope alive.
  2. Cody Ziglar on a new Static book? - This is a rumor floating around online since Cody will be on Friday's DC Next Level panel. I gotta say, I'm skeptical. Static feels a bit too close to Cody's most recent big two assignment, Miles Morales. Plus, we haven't even seen Static's debut on the Titans yet. If Cody's doing something Next Level, I'm hoping it's a different teenaged, quippy character -- Beast Boy.
  3. Che Grayson's Absolute Catwoman Gets Extended - If the sales numbers are any indication, this one is a no brainer. My guess is after the Cassandra Cain one-shot, Cass starts to take a bigger role, and the adventures continue long past #6.

Ok, I'll quit while I'm ahead. We already know the big announcements have come and gone (because that's how publisher solicitations work). The best we'll get are a few cover teases and a wink at the crowd. Can you tell I'm trying to temper my expectations?

On The Podcast

This week, I'm sitting down with four members of The Ink Alliance - a new coalition of Black-owned Direct Market retail stores. We're talking about how they came together, the challenges of being just 1% of DM retailers, and this really cool exclusive variant they're offering for New Titans #38.

On The Channel

Outside of The Pull List, things have been quiet on the channel lately. But it's for good reason! I'm currently renovating my Comic Room, and you'll see all the progress in a video later this week. For now, you can click the image above to see which hardcovers I added to the collection over the summer.

If you haven't already, go follow me on Instagram. I try to post a short video 3-5 times weekly to stay connected, and I think I'm getting better at making them!

I never would have guessed I'd only write 3 newsletters in 3 months, but here we are. February was a really good month, but it was tough for me. Every year, I feel like I struggle to cover the wealth of amazing Black comics projects out there during Black History Month. This year, I made 2 videos I'm really proud of. The Deep Dive into Dwayne McDuffie's unique legacy of Diversity at Milestone was well-received, and that made me happy. But the most ambitious video I've ever made was my deep...

Friday, February 20th would have been Dwayne McDuffie's 64th birthday. In comics, he's best known as the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Milestone Media -- home to Static, Icon & Rocket and more. He arguably had an even better career in the world of television animation, first with Static Shock, then serving as Story Editor for Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Ben 10 and the list goes on. His last screened work, a direct-to-DVD adaptation of Mark Waid's Tower of Babel, is probably...

We're finally at the last day of what has been an incredibly STACKED year for Comics. I've only been around since 2019, but this is the most excitement I've ever seen about the medium. We have straight up BANGERS coming out from EVERY comic publisher. DC's Absolute line sold millions of copies. Marvel's Ultimate Universe consistently overperformed, as did Skybound's Energon Universe. IDW is CRUSHING it with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Godzilla's Kai-Sei line. And we got a ton of really...
