New York Comic Con 2024 has finally gone from thing I'm super nervous about to trip I'm SUPER excited for. And as I type this, I’m actually sitting at the gate, waiting to board my flight. I spent most of yesterday frantically packing my bags, then most of this morning putting the final touches on some videos that will premiere on the channel while I’m gone. Speaking of, here’s an early look at today’s video: I don’t fully know what to expect. A few of my friends are already at the con, and their footage is crazy. The show floor looks massive, and I’m looking forward to the spectacle of it all. I’m not looking forward to seeing these Uber fares, but I guess that’s what budgets are for. I did grab a few comics yesterday, but I forgot to load them into Marvel Unlimited before I left, so I guess I won’t be reading them until I get back. The book I’ve been most looking forward to is Batman & Robin Year One #1, but you knew that already since you watched The Pull List. On The Podcast Today, I'm joined by not one, but TWO awesome guests! Amanda Deibert & Cat Staggs have worked together many times (despite my rookie question to start the episode), and they're teaming up once again on The Powerpuff Girls Halloween Special #1, out 10/23 from Dynamite Entertainment. I ask the pair what it's like being coworkers in the same house, how they each navigate separate careers in comics, and what we can expect from their Powerpuff Girls story.
Final Thoughts Man, I’m excited about this con. Typing the email to pass the time was a great idea, because it’s almost time to board. I’ll try to tease some footage out on Instagram and Twitter over the weekend, so be sure to follow me on both @bjkicks. I’ll see you guys when I get back. Until then… Read Something Dope Today, BJ KICKS P.S.: They just made an announcement asking someone to take a later flight for a $250 gift card. Nope, that won’t be me! P.P.S.: Oh wait… they just updated it to $350. That would make for some nice spending money. Decisions… |

My favorite retail holiday is just a few short days away, and I'm excited about it! Since you're a die-hard who subscribes to the e-mail list, I'll spare you the full story for an 18 millionth time. But Free Comic Book Day is what got me into comics 6 years ago, and it's probably the best chance we have all year to add new fans to our numbers. Besides being a fun, family friendly way to spend your Saturday morning; Free Comic Book Day also gives established readers their first glimpse at...
Not long ago, I wrote about a series of "Dope Comics With Something to Say." As a general rule, I love it when comic creators find a way to put real world perspectives in the pages of funny books. After all, learning through literature has been a thing since we were sitting in a circle hearing Mother Goose rhymes. But a few recent reads have had me flip-flopping on my position a bit, and now I'm scratching my head trying to articulate myself. I already told you how I felt about Tom King's...
These days, I'm not spending as much time in front of the camera. But the consolation prize is I get to spend more time talking comics in other forums, like our Discord community. Last week, someone asked everyone for their Top 3 comics on the pull list at the moment. After thinking about it for a while, I came to a shocking conclusion. Comics have been in a great place for the past 18 months or so. We've got the Energon Universe at Skybound, the Ultimate Universe at Marvel, and the Absolute...
