This week marked the soft opening of my LCS, Fight or Flight Comics at their brand new location in my local mall. I've been there every day for a week, doing everything from moving boxes to advising on furniture and display placement. I even took a break from vlogging to upsell a customer into some DC Comics, because I wanted the joy of giving someone a Justice League membership card. Safe to say, I've been enjoying my stint as a part time pseudo-employee. Hopefully, Dan lets me keep using the employee entrance after the Grand Opening. Speaking of DC... that ALL IN Special has me SO EXCITED about the next 3 months of stories! I should probably upgrade to the Ultra version of DC Universe Infinite, or I'm going to have some SERIOUS overages in my weekly pull budget. On The Channel Earlier this week, I got to chat with the family of Ed Piskor. I spoke my piece on the terrible tragedy they went through earlier this summer, but I'm really excited to see how they're picking up the pieces and working together to see his final completed work hit publication. So far, the Zoop campaign is blowing its goal out of the water. Hopefully, it's a resounding success, and brings some much needed joy to their lives. On The Podcast This week, friend of the show Chris Robinson is back! I think I asked every question in the book about being a comics editor last time. This time, we dove deep into his career as a writer. We talked about how he goes about picking project, knowing his creative limitations, and how he keeps it fun! His campaign for Bride of Werewolf Frankenstein is in the pre-launch phase on Kickstarter now. Check out our conversation, then head over there to set up your notification when it goes live! Final Thoughts New York Comic Con is a mere 2 weeks away. I'm excited about it, if not a bit overwhelmed. I have A LOT to do, a ton of people to meet, and quite a bit of travel to arrange. I'm looking forward to meeting several creators and viewers I've only spoken to via tweets. But I'm not a fan of big crowds, and I'm not quite sure how I'm going to fit it all into just 2 days. But I'm excited for the challenge. If you see me, say hello! It's likely I'll have tunnel vision, but I'll always stop to say hi. Read Something Dope Today, BJ KICKS P.S.: Storm #1 by Murewa Ayodele and Lucas Werneck was really good. Go get it! |

We're finally at the last day of what has been an incredibly STACKED year for Comics. I've only been around since 2019, but this is the most excitement I've ever seen about the medium. We have straight up BANGERS coming out from EVERY comic publisher. DC's Absolute line sold millions of copies. Marvel's Ultimate Universe consistently overperformed, as did Skybound's Energon Universe. IDW is CRUSHING it with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Godzilla's Kai-Sei line. And we got a ton of really...
Sunday, November 9th marked our 5th channel anniversary. 5 years of me talking to a camera about comic books. Telling everyone which books I'm buying and why I love them. Interviewing creators to get more insight into their works. Building a community of over 20,000 comic book lovers to celebrate all the best aspects of the hobby. But the best part of this hobby isn't the books at all. It's all the people who love them. Meet Onyx This is Onyx. I met his dad, a local rap artist, back when I...
When you do something for a long time, you tend to get good at it. Especially if you focus on making small improvements each time, your 50th attempt at something should look WAY better than your first. But if you’re not careful, you can fall into complacency along the way. So your 300th attempt looks a lot like your 75th. “Done is better than perfect” becomes the mantra, especially when finances are involved. It’s really easy to use the law of diminishing returns to justify laziness. Trust...
